What is a sacred Space?
A sacred space is a three dimensional space where people can connect with their beliefs and therefore their god. Many religions have adapted certain sacred spaces such as the monotheistic religions. Through certain elements the purpose of a sacred space is to communicate with their god and this distinguishes sacred spaces different from any other place.
WHat makes a Place Sacred?
The elements that make a space sacred are the following:
- Sacred Texts: They are believed to be divinely or supernaturally inspired and contain the main beliefs of the religion.
- Signs and Symbols: The signs and symbols of a sacred space include deeper meaning referring to the beliefs in the sacred texts.
- Actions and Gestures: Used to emphasise speech from prayers or the sacred text.
- Ceremonies and Rituals: Used to bring people closer to their god and apply to the regimen needed to form part of that religion.
- Prayers: May form part of the rituals and they are a direct communication with their Holy God.
